ULB offers a range of services to support students throughout their studies, whether you need financial assistance, practical support or help dealing with a difficult or unexpected situation.
FINANCIAL AND SOCIAL SUPPORT
The ULB Student Social Service (Service social étudiants – SSE) is available to ULB students throughout the academic year. It can provide information about your social rights, help you with administrative procedures and direct you to other services where appropriate.
Depending on your situation, support may include:
financial assistance;
reduced tuition fees;
access to special-purpose financial aid funds;
priority access to ULB accommodation;
free access to ULB Sports and benefits through ULB Culture for eligible students;
support for transgender students;
support for refugee students and applicants through the ULB Desk for Refugees;
recognition as a student with fewer opportunities (AMO).
ULB also offers other forms of support, including a social grocery shop, medical care, psychological support and family planning services.
Important deadlines for 2026–2027
ULB Student Social Service financial assistance
Applications can be submitted from 24 August 2026 until 16 April 2027 at 1 pm.
Fédération Wallonië-Bruxelles study allowance
Applications for the 2026–2027 academic year can be submitted from 1 July to 31 October 2026.
Priority access to ULB accommodation
Applications for priority access for the 2026–2027 academic year closed on 31 March 2026. Check the ULB priority accommodation procedure (only in French) for eligibility criteria and details for the next application period.
Do not wait until the deadline to apply. Eligibility criteria and application procedures vary according to the type of support.

€2 MEALS FOR STUDENTS IN FINANCIAL DIFFICULTY
ULB students experiencing financial difficulties may be eligible for Smart and vegetarian meals for €2 at participating university restaurants.
Students who already benefit from certain tuition fee reductions granted by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles or the ULB Student Social Service automatically have access to the €2 rate. Other students who consider themselves to be in a financially vulnerable situation can apply directly through MonULB.
Once activated, simply present your student card at the checkout to benefit from the reduced rate.

Forum – Plaine Campus;
Les Presses – Erasme Campus.
Please note that access to the €2 rate must be reactivated at the beginning of each academic year.

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIFIC NEEDS
Depending on your personal circumstances, you may be eligible for Student with Specific Needs (Étudiant·e à Besoins Spécifiques – EBS) status.
EBS status is not limited to students with disabilities. Different forms of support are available for:
students with a disability, learning disorder or long-term health condition;
student carers;
high-level athletes;
student entrepreneurs;
high-level artists;
pregnant students and young parents;
students in other specific situations recognised by ULB.
Depending on your circumstances, reasonable adjustments may be made to help you participate fully in your studies. These may concern your study programme, classes, examinations, mobility or access to university facilities.

COMPENSATION DURING THE EXAM PERIOD
If you normally need to work to support yourself but have to reduce or stop working during the exam period, you may be eligible for an exam-period compensatory allowance (allocation compensatoire examens) from the ULB Student Social Service.
To apply, you must submit a financial assistance application to the Student Social Service. Your individual situation will then be assessed by a social worker.
