Action required: Request this from your local health insurance provider before leaving your country. Generally, EU citizens only need to pay a supplementary fee.
Required documentation: You must have health insurance valid in Belgium.
Visa requirement: To obtain your visa, provide proof of health insurance covering at least the first three months of your stay. Acceptable options include Schengen-type insurance (e.g., Globe Partner, Expat & Co) or proof of future coverage with a Belgian public health insurance company. The latter costs around €12 per month. For assistance, contact the International Welcome Desk at welcome@ulb.be.
Repatriation insurance
Coverage information: The Belgian public health insurance company covers most medical expenses in Belgium but does not cover repatriation to your home country in case of illness or accident.
Action required: Consider purchasing private repatriation insurance either in your home country or in Belgium. Check the policy details carefully, especially regarding the duration of coverage abroad.
